LOUIS EUGENE ALLEN: "Lou" - captained Duke University football team. First freshman ever to make a Wallace Wade coached team. Outstanding blocker and great offensive man. Born in Gadsen, Alabama. Married, has a daughter. Lives in Durham, N. C.
LYNNE CHANDNOIS: "Shad" - greatest wingback in Michigan State history. Outstanding both offensively and defensively. Voted on almost every All American team in the country. Came to M.S.U. as a star basketball player, switched to football to gain all honours. Married, one daughter. Lives in Flint, Michigan.
JAMES EDWARD FINKS: "Jim" - led nation in pass completions while T quarterbacking Tulsa in 1948. Considered a great baseball prospect and caught with Cincinnati Reds farm club, but decided to make a career in football. Lives in Salem, Ill. Third season with Steelers.
JOSEPH STEVEN GERI: "Joe" - transplanted Pennsylvanian who starred at University of Georgia. Steelers' leading scorer and passer. Great quick kicker. Holds distinction of playing in four bowl games - Rose, Gator, Orange, Sugar. Lives in Phoenixville, Pa.
HOWARD PAUL HARTLEY: "Rabbit" - third Steeler season. Traded by Washington Redskins. Led Steelers in pass interceptions last fall. Competed also in basketball and track at Duke University. Served in Navy lives in Ravenswood,
W. Va.
ELBERT NICKEL: "Elbie" - one of the most underrated players in the pro league. Led the Steelers in pass receptions last season. Captain, University of Cincinnati varsity. Turned down a baseball contract to play football. Married, two children. Lives in Chillicothe, Ohio.
JERRY NUZUM: "Bruiser" - considered right behind Steve Van Buren as the hardest straight away runner in the league. Led the Steelers in ground gaining in 1949. Played at New Mexico A. & M., where he starred in track and swimming. Born in Clovis, New Mexico but now resides in Pittsburgh. Married with two children.
CHARLES ORTMANN: "Chuck" - led Michigan to three Big Ten conference titles. One of nation's leading passers. Set collegiate record with only three interceptions in 125 attempts. Had only 12 interceptions in his entire collegiate career. One of the best punters in Western conference. Married. Lives in Milwaukee.
GERALD WADE SHIPKEY: "Jerry" - third Steeler season. One of the best defensive backfield men in pro football. Also a great three and four-yard per try fullback. One of the team's leading scorers. Just missed making the Olympic team. Holds the UCLA record for the shot put. Married with two children. Lives in Anaheim, California.
TRUETT HENRY SMITH: "T" - incidentally has odd nickname for the quarterback of the only non-T team in the National league. Played at both Mississippi State and University of Wyoming. Both schools rank him as the top blocking back in the school's football history. Brother, H. Allen Smith, played end with Chicago Bears. Married lives in McComb, Miss.
